The Goal is a Self Sustaining Artist Support Platform

Just a few days ago I launched a new jobs page! Every month this rileyb3d platform brings in some income (between Patreon, YouTube, etc.) This isn't enough for me to support my family on (that's the dream), so for now I have a fulltime job, which I genuinely enjoy (I'm the producer for Blender Guru, if you didn't know this)! I'm lucky enough to have a job that takes the majority of my time, and supports my family.

This has resulted in a situation where I spend the majority of my time producing videos for work, but I still have this side income coming from my platform. I've always been one to talk about supporting artist communities and fellow indie artists, but what does that actually look like? Well for me, since I have a great job, I've decided to funnel my rileyb3d earnings towards hiring out projects with other artists (hence the new jobs page). I find this to be the best approach. I keep production going for Patreon supporters (giving you trainings and asset packs), and on the other hand I funnel earnings back towards supporting this community of artists. Someday, if I'm lucky, we'll grow to a point I can commit some more time to it (not just weekends and nights). But for now, this feels like a good solution. It allows me to contribute back to the community that has kept me going for so long.

How to Use the rileyb3d Job Board

I feel like the job board is fairly self explanatory, but I still don't mind walking through it! Every month I take the earnings from rileyb3d (Patreon, YouTube, etc.) and I divvy it out into project listings. These are typically prop or environment projects , but could expand into other aspects of production (like video editing). Basically whatever I can hire out that helps add value to the community. If I'm supporting community members with work, while simultaneously creating value for the community, then we're doing okay.

Projects Going on Right Now

The job board is only a few days old, but we already have some great projects going! Here's some progress from an awesome Ferris Wheel asset Edward Lim has been working on. Edward has been a friend and member of this community for quite a while now:

Keep in mind these images are still work in progress, but Edward is doing amazing work so far and I definitely felt it worth sharing! Just this weekend I've approved 2 more projects, bringing us close to the budget for this month. As Patreon income grows, so will my ability to hire out work. If you've been a part of this community for a while, you hopefully know my approach to art and community by now. This is a global community and I believe there's enough to go around. When I have enough to share, I will.

Creating art, for some of us, is a hobby. For others, we're lucky enough to do it for work. My rate of learning increased drastically as soon as I started making money with my art. The math is pretty simple. The more money supported my time, the more time I could spend working, and the faster I learned. It's a great pleasure when I get an opportunity to give that experience to other artists. That's the goal for this community. If we can become some kind of a self sustaining artist support platform that justifies your time creating, we'll be on a great track.

So go check out the job board! Go apply for a project. If you're a good fit and it's within this month's platform earnings budget, I'll get you going on something!
